Portland Haiku

chocolate, coffee;
these things bring happiness.
i wonder how though?

pre-school comes once
a child plays, learns, and grows;
just as a child should

I received a haiku from a friend that broke from what I understood to be the correct 5-7-5 format. So I, of course, checked out the wikipedia entry for haiku.

So now I’ve learned a little more about the structure, ideas, and origin of haiku and will try to add that to my writing. Expect some breaking from the 5-7-5 format, and more topics other than nature, which I admittedly have been focusing on.

shall i talk about
the weather, the sky only?
perhaps family?

I missed my first day yesterday. Definitely not my last time, but alas, my first. My intention is to update this site daily, I believe that I am up to the task. I hope that you enjoy it, and will continue to read as my haiku continues to improve.

sunshine yesterday
picnic and walk in the park
these are the good things

cool portland spring day
pleasant thoughts and ideas
almost like water

coffee, rain, sunshine
make spring greater than it is
only in portland

wind chills, cuts through me
seeking shelter behind doors
teeth chatter briefly

day turns to evening
sun sets as sleep approaches
begin fresh again
